Whispering Death — the TOW missile turned the Cobra into the tank killer of the battlefield.
The BGM-71 TOW (Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided) missile entered service in 1970 and was first employed from AH-1 Cobra helicopters, giving Army aviation a precision anti-armor capability that changed the dynamics of ground warfare. "Whispering Death" became the unofficial name for TOW-equipped Cobras — silent until the missile was already on the way. This full-color patch commemorates the TOW system and the crews who employed it.
