Official MWSS-372 Diamondbacks St Patrick's Day Patch — The Marines Who Keep the Airfield Open, Even on St. Paddy's Day
The Diamondbacks don't take holidays. But they do celebrate them — between fuel runs and flight line operations.
Marine Wing Support Squadron 372 (MWSS-372) — the 'Diamondbacks' — is an aviation ground support unit of the United States Marine Corps based at Camp Pendleton, California, under Marine Air Control Group 38, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, with a direct support relationship to Marine Aircraft Group 39. Commissioned on June 2, 1986, the Diamondbacks provide the full spectrum of aviation ground support that keeps Marine aircraft flying — including expeditionary airfield operations, forward arming and refueling points, crash fire rescue, heavy equipment operations, motor transport, weather services, combat engineering, and airfield damage repair. MWSS-372 deployed over 300 Marines to Southwest Asia for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1990-91, then deployed to Mogadishu, Somalia, for Operation Restore Hope in December 1992, establishing aviation ground support at Baledogle Airfield and FARPs in Baidoa. In March 2003, the Diamondbacks took part in the invasion of Iraq, cleared obstacles and reopened the 9,000-foot runway at Salman Pak East during the drive to Baghdad, and dispensed fuel to Army medevac helicopters and Marine tanks during the push north. The squadron deployed again to Iraq in 2005 and 2007, then deployed in full to southern Afghanistan in 2009 for Operation Enduring Freedom, providing FARP support to aircraft inserting Marines into the Taliban stronghold of Marjeh during Operation Moshtarak — the largest military operation of the Afghan War. MWSS-372 was recognized as MWSS of the Year in 2006, 2013, and most recently 2024. This St. Patrick's Day patch adds a festive twist to one of the Marine Corps' most decorated wing support squadrons.
Perfect For: MWSS-372 Diamondbacks Marines past and present, aviation ground support specialists, ARFF firefighters, combat engineers, Camp Pendleton Marines, MAG-39 and 3rd MAW personnel, and anyone who has served with the Diamondbacks.
