Official Marine Aviation Control Squadron MACS-4 Shoulder Patch — The Eyes and Ears of Marine Aviation in the Pacific
Before the jets launch, MACS-4 has already established the command and control network that directs them to the fight.
Marine Air Control Squadron 4 (MACS-4) is a United States Marine Corps aviation command and control unit based under the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in the Pacific. MACS squadrons are responsible for providing the tactical air command center, direct air support center, and associated communications and radar capabilities that allow the Marine Air-Ground Task Force to control and direct aviation operations in support of ground forces. MACS-4 operates and maintains the radar systems, data links, and communications networks that detect, track, and identify aircraft in the battlespace, providing the air picture that allows Marine air controllers to direct fighters to targets, deconflict airspace, manage close air support requests, and coordinate the full spectrum of Marine aviation operations. Without MACS, the fighters don't know where to go, the helicopters don't have cleared routes, and the ground commander doesn't have the air support coordination that makes the MAGTF the most powerful combined arms force in the world. MACS squadrons trace their organizational history to the Marine Corps' recognition that modern air operations require dedicated command and control units with their own organic radar, communications, and data processing capabilities. MACS-4's Pacific location places it at the center of the Marine Corps' focus on the Indo-Pacific theater, where controlling airspace and maintaining air superiority across vast oceanic distances is essential to any future conflict. This shoulder patch represents the Marines who provide the command and control backbone of Marine aviation in the Pacific.
Perfect For: MACS-4 Marines past and present, Marine air traffic control and air command and control community members, 1st MAW personnel, MACG and MACS veterans, and anyone who has worked in the tactical air command center or direct air support center.
