USMC 8th Marines Patch — Embroidered Patch
The Beirut Battalion — Tarawa to Lebanon
The 8th Marine Regiment carries a combat legacy that spans the Pacific and the Middle East, from the blood-soaked coral of Tarawa to the tragic bombing in Beirut that changed American military history. This patch represents a regiment that has faced some of the most challenging combat environments in Marine Corps history.
The 8th Marines fought with the 2nd Marine Division in some of World War II's most brutal Pacific battles, arriving at Guadalcanal in November 1942 and later participating in the assault on Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa. But it was on October 23, 1983, that the regiment's name became forever linked to tragedy when a truck bomb destroyed the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines headquarters building in Beirut, Lebanon, killing 241 American service members — 220 of them Marines. The Beirut barracks bombing remains one of the deadliest terrorist attacks against American military forces in history and profoundly shaped U.S. military force protection policies for decades. Based at Camp Lejeune, the 8th Marines have continued to serve with distinction in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Perfect For:
Marines who served with 8th Marines, Beirut veterans and Gold Star families, 2nd MARDIV personnel, Tarawa and WWII Pacific historians, Camp Lejeune Marines, and anyone who remembers October 23, 1983.
We remember Beirut — and every battle before and since.
