Greek Marines Patch — Embroidered Patch
Tharsin Hri — Courage Is Necessary — Hellenic Marines
From the wine-dark waters of the Aegean to the rugged shores of a thousand islands, the legacy of Greek naval warfare stretches back to the triremes of Athens and the marines who boarded enemy vessels at Salamis. This patch carries the identity of the modern Hellenic Marines — the 32nd Marines Brigade — a force that stands watch over one of the most strategically complex maritime environments in the Mediterranean.
The 32nd Marines Brigade traces its ancestry to the 32nd Infantry Regiment, formed in Preveza in 1919. The regiment fought in the Greco-Turkish War and the Greco-Italian War during World War II before being disbanded during the German occupation. Reorganized and designated as a naval infantry unit in 1967, the Brigade is headquartered at the port city of Volos in Thessaly — near the ancient port of Iolcos, from which Jason and the Argonauts embarked on their legendary voyage. Unlike most nations' marines, Greek Marines form part of the Hellenic Army, with landing craft and naval support provided by the Hellenic Navy. The unit's insignia depicts the Argo, and its motto — attributed to the goddess Athena — is "Courage Is Necessary."
Perfect For: Hellenic Marines veterans, Greek military enthusiasts, USMC personnel who participated in Exercise Alexander the Great, NATO amphibious warfare partners, and collectors of international military insignia.
Courage is necessary — the Hellenic Marines stand ready.
