Dutch Marines Patch — Embroidered Patch
Qua Patet Orbis — Royal Netherlands Marine Corps
"As Far As The World Extends." The motto of the Korps Mariniers speaks to a tradition of global expeditionary service stretching back to the age of sail, when Dutch Marines raided the English fleet at Chatham and helped capture Gibraltar. This patch represents the second-oldest active marine corps in the world — an elite force that has fought on every continent and remains one of NATO's premier rapid-reaction units.
The Korps Mariniers was founded on December 10, 1665, during the Second Anglo-Dutch War by Grand Pensionary Johan de Witt and Admiral Michiel de Ruyter as the Regiment de Marine. Though the fifth European marine force established, the Dutch were the first to specialize in amphibious operations. After near-annihilation during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands in 1940, the Korps was rebuilt with U.S. Marine Corps assistance, training at Camp Lejeune beginning in December 1944. Dutch Marines deployed to the East Indies, served in Western New Guinea until 1962, stormed a hostage-held train in 1977, deployed to Cambodia with UNTAC, and have served in Afghanistan and counter-piracy operations off Somalia. Today approximately 2,300 Mariniers serve as the Royal Netherlands Navy's expeditionary spearhead, maintaining a permanent UK/Netherlands Landing Force with the British Royal Marines.
Perfect For: Korps Mariniers veterans, Royal Marines who served alongside Dutch Marines, USMC personnel familiar with the Camp Lejeune connection, NATO amphibious warfare enthusiasts, and collectors of international military insignia.
As far as the world extends — Korps Mariniers.
