Chinese Marines Patch — Embroidered Patch
The Dragon's Amphibious Fist — People's Liberation Army Navy Marine Corps
From the contested waters of the South China Sea to the shores of Hainan Island, the People's Liberation Army Navy Marine Corps represents China's growing ambition to project power beyond its coastline. This patch marks one of the most rapidly expanding marine forces in the world — a service branch that has transformed from a small coastal defense unit into an expeditionary force with global reach.
The PLANMC was originally established in April 1953 to conduct amphibious operations against islands held by Nationalist China during the Chinese Civil War. By the end of the Korean War era, the force numbered 110,000 personnel in eight divisions, but was disbanded in October 1957 when plans to seize Taiwan were shelved. The Marine Corps was re-established in December 1979, and the 1st Marine Brigade was activated on Hainan Island on May 5, 1980. Since 2017, the PLANMC has undergone dramatic expansion, growing from two brigades to eight, with an estimated 45,000 personnel and plans to eventually reach 100,000 — a 400 percent increase reflecting China's strategic shift toward blue-water expeditionary capability.
Perfect For: Military historians, students of Pacific Rim security, collectors of international military insignia, and anyone interested in the evolving balance of power in the Indo-Pacific region.
