Brazilian Marines Patch — Embroidered Patch
Adsumus — Here We Are — Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais
"Adsumus" — "Here we are." The motto of the Brazilian Marine Corps speaks to a tradition of readiness stretching back over two centuries, from the Napoleonic era to the favelas of Rio de Janeiro and the UN peacekeeping missions of the 21st century. This patch represents the oldest marine force in the Americas and one of the most respected in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Brazilian Marine Corps — Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais — traces its origins to 1808, when the Royal Brigade of the Navy (Brigada Real da Marinha) arrived in Rio de Janeiro escorting the Portuguese royal family fleeing Napoleon's invasion. The Brigade's baptism of fire came in 1809 with the capture of Cayenne in French Guiana. After Brazilian independence in 1822, the force became part of the Imperial Navy, receiving its current name in 1932. Today the CFN fields approximately 16,000 all-volunteer professionals headquartered at the historic Fortaleza de São José in Rio de Janeiro. Brazilian Marines have served in UN peacekeeping operations in Angola, Haiti, Cambodia, and across Latin America, and maintain a close training relationship with the United States Marine Corps.
Perfect For: Brazilian Marine Corps veterans, USMC personnel who participated in Exercise Southern Exchange, international military insignia collectors, and anyone who values the traditions of the Western Hemisphere's oldest marine force.
Adsumus — here we are, and here we stand.
