USMC 7th Marines Patch — Embroidered Patch
The Magnificent Seventh
From the jungles of Guadalcanal to the deserts of Iraq, the 7th Marine Regiment has been the 1st Marine Division's assault force for over eight decades. Known as the "Magnificent Seventh," this regiment carries a combat pedigree built by some of the most legendary Marines in Corps history.
Formed in 1917, the 7th Marines were reactivated in 1941 and sent to Samoa before joining the 1st Marine Division at Guadalcanal, where under Colonel Amor Sims the regiment annihilated over 6,000 Japanese in 42 separate engagements. It was at Guadalcanal that "Chesty" Puller commanded 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, earning the third of his six Navy Crosses, and "Manila John" Basilone earned the Medal of Honor. The regiment fought at Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, and Okinawa in WWII, led the division's advance to the Chosin Reservoir in Korea, and participated in Operation Starlite — the first major American engagement against the Viet Cong. Based at Twentynine Palms, the 7th Marines deployed to Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
