2nd Battalion, 6th Marines — The Indianhead Division
This patch carries the Indianhead insignia as worn by 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines during World War I. As part of the 4th Marine Brigade within the 2nd Infantry Division, the battalion fought across the Western Front in the battles that defined both the Marine Corps and the American military's role in the Great War.
2nd Battalion, 6th Marines was one of three rifle battalions that formed the combat power of the 6th Marine Regiment in France. The battalion participated in the Battle of Belleau Wood, where it fought alongside the other battalions of the 4th Marine Brigade in the savage three-week engagement that broke the German advance toward Paris. The battalion continued to fight at Soissons, Blanc Mont, and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, contributing to the relentless Allied pressure that brought Germany to the armistice on November 11, 1918. The 6th Marines earned the French Croix de Guerre and Fourragère for gallantry, honors still worn by the regiment.
