USMC 2nd MARDIV Patch — Embroidered Patch
Following Me — From Tarawa to Fallujah
The scarlet and gold spearhead of the 2nd Marine Division is one of the most recognized symbols in the Marine Corps. This patch represents a division that has fought from the blood-soaked beaches of Tarawa to the streets of Fallujah, earning a reputation for aggressive, unrelenting combat that has spanned eight decades of service.
Activated on February 1, 1941, at San Diego under Major General Clayton B. Vogel, the 2nd Marine Division earned its combat reputation in World War II at Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa. The assault on Betio Island at Tarawa in November 1943 became one of the most iconic and costly battles in Marine history — forced to wade hundreds of yards through devastating Japanese fire after coral reefs grounded their landing craft, the Marines fought for 76 hours to secure a tiny island. The division earned a Presidential Unit Citation for Tarawa alone. Based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, the 2nd MARDIV has served as the ground combat element of II Marine Expeditionary Force, deploying to Beirut, the Dominican Republic, Desert Storm, and multiple tours in Iraq's Al Anbar province.
Perfect For:
Marines who served with 2nd MARDIV, Camp Lejeune veterans, II MEF personnel, WWII Pacific Theater historians, Tarawa and Saipan battle enthusiasts, and anyone who wears the spearhead with pride.
From the reef at Tarawa to the sands of Al Anbar — always following me.
