The 2nd Light Anti-Aircraft Battalion stood ready with missiles up, protecting the MAGTF from the air threat that could turn the tide of battle. This officially licensed patch represents the Marines who made enemy pilots think twice about low-altitude runs over Marine positions.
The 2nd Light Anti-Aircraft Battalion provided ground-based air defense for the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, operating surface-to-air missile systems that created a protective umbrella over critical Marine assets and formations. The battalion evolved through multiple designations — from Forward Area Air Defense (FAAD) batteries to the Low Altitude Air Defense (LAAD) battalions that serve today. Their mission has always been the same: provide close-in, low-altitude air defense that kills enemy aircraft before they can threaten Marines on the ground.
