USMC 2nd Battalion 5th Marines Retreat Hell Bloodline Patch — Embroidered Patch
Retreat, Hell! — 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines
The words "Retreat, Hell!" are attributed to a captain of the 5th Marines at Belleau Wood in 1918, and 2/5 has been living that defiant motto ever since. This Bloodline patch connects every generation of 2/5 Marines to the warriors who refused to retreat at Belleau Wood, Chosin, and every battlefield in between.
2nd Battalion, 5th Marines serves at Camp Pendleton as part of the 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. The battalion's lineage includes the most storied engagements in Marine Corps history — Belleau Wood and the Meuse-Argonne in WWI, Guadalcanal and Peleliu in WWII, Inchon and the Chosin Reservoir in Korea, and Hue City in Vietnam. At Chosin, it was Major General O.P. Smith who echoed the battalion's spirit: "Retreat, hell! We're just attacking in a different direction." In Iraq, 2/5 was heavily engaged in Ramadi and Fallujah operations. The "Bloodline" patch connects all of these battles into a single unbroken chain of courage.
Perfect For:
2/5 Marines past and present, 5th Marines regiment personnel, Belleau Wood and Chosin historians, 1st MARDIV veterans, Camp Pendleton Marines, and anyone who lives by the words "Retreat, Hell!"
Retreat, Hell! — the bloodline runs deep.
