The 25th Marines fought as part of the 4th Marine Division at Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima during World War II. At Iwo Jima, the regiment landed on the right flank of the division's assault and immediately came under devastating Japanese fire, facing some of the heaviest resistance on the island's eastern beaches. The regiment continued as a reserve unit after the war, with its battalions spread across the northeastern United States. Reserve Marines of the 25th have deployed to Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan, demonstrating that the reserve component maintains the same fighting capability that won Presidential Unit Citations in the Pacific.
