USMC 1st Marine Brigade Patch — Embroidered Patch
Where the Old Breed Began
Before there was a 1st Marine Division, there was the 1st Marine Brigade — the nucleus around which the most storied division in Marine Corps history would be built. If you know the legacy of the Old Breed, you know it started here. This patch connects you to the very foundation of Marine ground combat power, a lineage that traces back over a century of service, sacrifice, and relentless forward momentum.
The 1st Marine Brigade's roots stretch to the 1st Advance Base Brigade, activated in December 1913 at Philadelphia. Redesignated through the decades, the brigade saw action in the Banana Wars across Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and at Vera Cruz, Mexico. By 1940, the brigade deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where it would be reorganized and expanded into the 1st Marine Division on February 1, 1941 — the first division-sized unit in Marine Corps history. That transformation set the stage for Guadalcanal, Peleliu, Okinawa, the Frozen Chosin, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and the march to Baghdad. Every battle the Old Breed has fought traces its origins to this brigade.
Perfect For:
Marines who served with 1st MARDIV or its subordinate units, military history collectors who value lineage and legacy, veterans connected to I MEF, Camp Pendleton Marines, and anyone who understands that great things start from humble beginnings.
The seed that grew into the most decorated division in the Corps.
