1st Battalion, 7th Marines is based at MCAGCC Twentynine Palms as part of the 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. The battalion's extraordinary roster of famous Marines includes Lieutenant General Lewis "Chesty" Puller, Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone, General Raymond G. Davis, and General James Mattis. Multiple Medal of Honor recipients have served in the battalion's ranks across WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. The First Team has deployed to every major conflict since World War II and was the first Marine unit to establish defensive positions in Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield in 1990.
