MAWTS-1, based at MCAS Yuma, Arizona, is the Marine Corps' center of excellence for aviation tactics, responsible for conducting the Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) course — the Marine Corps' equivalent of Top Gun for all aviation platforms. HMLA-367 "Scarface" is a light attack helicopter squadron operating the AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom. The intersection of these two commands in this memorial patch reflects the close relationship between MAWTS-1's training mission and the fleet squadrons whose crews attend WTI.
