Official Carrier Air Wing 9 (CVW-9) Japanese Samurai Shoulder Patch — Carrier Air Wing NINE "SHOGUN" NAS Lemoore F-35C / F/A-18E/F / EA-18G / E-2D / CMV-22B / MH-60R/S Embroidered Patch

SHOGUN — Carrier Air Wing 9, the samurai of the Pacific Fleet.

Carrier Air Wing 9 (CVW-9), tactical callsign "SHOGUN," is one of the United States Navy's most decorated and longest-continuously-serving carrier air wings, headquartered at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California, and assigned across multiple Pacific Fleet aircraft carriers. The wing was originally established as Carrier Air Group 9 (CVG-9) on March 26, 1952, redesignated CVW-9 on December 20, 1963, and made its first cruise aboard USS Philippine Sea (CV-47) in January 1953 to participate in combat operations at the close of the Korean War. CVW-9 made seven combat deployments to Vietnam aboard USS Enterprise (CVN-65), USS America (CV-66), and USS Constellation (CV-64) — and on May 10, 1972, while embarked aboard USS Constellation, CVW-9 aircraft shot down seven North Vietnamese MiG-17 and MiG-21 aircraft in a single day, tying the record for total aircraft shot down by a single USN/USAF wing in one day during the Vietnam War, an action that produced five Navy Crosses and a Presidential Unit Citation. Today CVW-9 comprises eight squadrons flying the F-35C Lightning II, F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, EA-18G Growler, E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, CMV-22B Osprey, MH-60R Seahawk, and MH-60S Knighthawk, and most recently completed an extended Indo-Pacific deployment from July to December 2024 aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) — totaling more than 11,600 flight hours and 5,500 sorties. This Japanese Samurai shoulder patch references the wing's SHOGUN callsign and its long association with Pacific Fleet operations.

Perfect For: Carrier Air Wing 9 (CVW-9) active-duty and veteran personnel, NAS Lemoore residents, F-35C Lightning II and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet pilots and maintainers, EA-18G Growler / E-2D Hawkeye / CMV-22B / MH-60R/S aircrew, USS Abraham Lincoln, USS Theodore Roosevelt, USS Constellation, USS America, and USS Enterprise carrier veterans, Vietnam-era CVW-9 aces and squadron alumni, and Pacific Fleet supporters.

SHOGUN — Carrier Air Wing 9, since 1952.
