This patch represents the operational partnership between 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines (2/7) and the 2nd Marine Logistics Group (2d MLG), commemorating their combined operations in support of the Fleet Marine Force (FMF). 2/7 is an infantry battalion assigned to the 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, based at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California. 2d MLG provides combat logistics support to the II Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF) from Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
The relationship between infantry battalions and logistics units is the lifeblood of Marine Corps operations. While 2/7's Marines close with and destroy the enemy through fire and maneuver, 2d MLG's Marines ensure that the fighting battalions have the ammunition, fuel, food, water, medical support, and equipment maintenance they need to sustain combat operations. Without logistics, the infantry runs out of bullets; without the infantry, logistics has nothing to support. This patch celebrates that symbiotic relationship.
2nd Battalion, 7th Marines has a distinguished combat history dating back to World War II, including service at Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, and in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
