Official VP-4 Skinny Dragons Coin — Patrol Squadron 4 Military Challenge Coin
Skinny Dragons — pride and excellence, coined for keeps.
Patrol Squadron 4 (VP-4), the "Skinny Dragons," is a United States Navy maritime patrol and reconnaissance squadron flying the Boeing P-8A Poseidon from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington. Established as Bombing Squadron 144 on July 1, 1943, VP-4 has served continuously for over eight decades across every major conflict and operation from World War II to the Global War on Terror. The "Skinny Dragons" nickname was born in 1965 when the squadron's Hawaiian-inspired Black Griffin logo was mistaken for a "Skinny Dragon" by Officers' Club waitresses — and the name stuck permanently. VP-4 has earned the Battle "E" Award, the Captain Arnold Jay Isbell Trophy for anti-submarine excellence, and the CNO Aviation Safety Award multiple times. During Desert Storm, the Skinny Dragons flew 279 combat missions and contributed to the total destruction of the Iraqi Navy. This challenge coin carries the Skinny Dragons legacy in a format built to be traded, displayed, and carried with pride.
Perfect For: VP-4 Skinny Dragons active-duty and veteran personnel, P-8A Poseidon crews, maritime patrol aviation enthusiasts, challenge coin collectors, and anyone who values the Skinny Dragons' tradition of pride and excellence.
