Official Super Hornet Training Unit New Orleans challenge coin.
Reserve F/A-18 training out of NAS JRB Belle Chasse — the Cajun Strike Fighter coin.
The Super Hornet Training Unit at New Orleans operates from Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans (NAS JRB Belle Chasse), Louisiana — the joint reserve base south of New Orleans that has been the home of Navy and Marine Corps reserve fighter aviation in the Gulf South for decades. Resident reserve fighter community squadrons at NAS JRB New Orleans have included VFA-204 "River Rattlers" — established as Attack Squadron 204 (VA-204) on July 1, 1970 at NAS Memphis, Tennessee with the call sign approved by the CNO on August 31, 1970, redesignated VFA-204 on May 1, 1991 with the F/A-18A Hornet transition, and currently operating some of the oldest F/A-18A Hornets in the Navy as part of Carrier Air Wing Reserve 20 (CVWR-20) under the Tactical Support Wing. The squadron flies the Reserve adversary ("Red Air") mission for fleet units, with 50–75% of flight time dedicated to air-to-air adversary support, plus Forward Air Controller and JTAC training. The Super Hornet Training Unit designation captures the Reserve Hornet/Super Hornet pipeline that crosses through the Belle Chasse ramp. This challenge coin is for every Reserve fighter aircrew, maintainer, and training cadre member who came through New Orleans. Heavy struck metal, fleet-quality.
Perfect For: Super Hornet Training Unit New Orleans Sailors, VFA-204 River Rattlers active and Reserve personnel, F/A-18A/E/F Hornet and Super Hornet pilots and maintainers, NAS JRB New Orleans Belle Chasse personnel, Carrier Air Wing Reserve 20 (CVWR-20) members, Tactical Support Wing community members, and Reserve fighter community challenge coin collectors.
