The Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) mini patch is the compact-format identifier for graduates of the Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) WTI course at MCAS Yuma, Arizona. The WTI course is the Marine Corps' premier tactical aviation training program, producing the weapons and tactics instructors who serve as tactical leaders in every Marine aviation squadron.
The WTI course is a grueling seven-week program that covers the full spectrum of Marine aviation tactical operations: close air support, assault support, anti-air warfare, deep air support, and the integration of all six functions of Marine aviation. Only the most tactically proficient pilots, NFOs, and enlisted aircrew are selected to attend, and the course's academic and flight training demands push even the most experienced aviators to their limits. WTI graduates return to their squadrons as recognized tactical experts, responsible for training their fellow Marines and maintaining the tactical edge that defines Marine aviation combat readiness. This mini patch is the compact version worn when space is limited.
