Officially Licensed USMC MALS-49 Magicians Sticker — Making Marine Aircraft Fly Is the Real Magic Trick

Reservist by title, maintainer by trade, magician by reputation — because keeping these birds airworthy takes sorcery.

Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 49 (MALS-49) — the 'Magicians' — is the Marine Corps Reserve's premier aviation logistics unit, providing intermediate-level maintenance, aviation supply, and ordnance support to the flying squadrons of Marine Aircraft Group 49 (MAG-49) under the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing. Activated on July 1, 1969, at Naval Air Station New York in Brooklyn as Headquarters and Maintenance Squadron 49, the unit relocated to NAS Lakehurst, New Jersey in 1970 and then to NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania in 1972, before being redesignated as MALS-49 in 1988. The squadron has operated across multiple sites throughout its history — from Andrews Air Force Base to Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, New York, and today maintains its headquarters element at MCAS New River, North Carolina, with detachments at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey and NAS Joint Reserve Base New Orleans. MALS-49 holds the distinction of being the only MALS in the entire 4th Marine Aircraft Wing with an active-duty core of maintenance and aviation supply personnel, giving it a unique readiness edge in the reserve component. When the call came for Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004, MALS-49 Marines activated and augmented active-duty units in Iraq, providing critical aircraft sustainment in a combat zone. The Magicians keep CH-53E Super Stallions, AH-1Z Vipers, UH-1Y Venoms, and other Marine aircraft mission-ready across the eastern seaboard — proving that weekend warriors can turn wrenches just as well as their active-duty counterparts. This sticker is for every reserve maintainer who's ever made an aircraft materiel-complete with nothing but skill, ingenuity, and a little magic.
