The Expeditionary Airfield concept represents the Marine Corps' ability to establish aviation operating capability from bare ground anywhere in the world. This patch, with its NAS Pensacola connection, represents the training and development of expeditionary airfield operations.
Expeditionary Airfields (EAFs) represent the Marine Corps' capability to rapidly establish fully functional aviation operating bases from austere or undeveloped locations. EAF Marines are trained to construct expeditionary runways, taxiways, and parking areas using AM-2 matting, establish fuel distribution systems, install arresting gear, and provide all the ground support infrastructure needed for Marine aviation to operate from forward locations. The NAS Pensacola connection ties to the training and development of these critical expeditionary capabilities.
