The 1st Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group (I MIG) is a relatively new organization in the Marine Corps force structure, established as part of the service's reorganization to consolidate information-related capabilities under a single commander at the MEF level. Based at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, I MIG falls under I Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF) and is designed to plan, coordinate, and execute information operations, intelligence, cyber operations, electronic warfare, communications, and civil affairs in support of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF).
The creation of MEF Information Groups represents a fundamental shift in how the Marine Corps thinks about information warfare. Previously, intelligence, communications, and information operations were spread across multiple commands and staff sections. By consolidating these capabilities into a single group, the Marine Corps recognized that in modern warfare, the information environment is as critical as the physical battlespace. I MIG's Marines and Sailors operate across the electromagnetic spectrum, in cyberspace, and in the human domain, conducting operations that shape the battlespace before the first kinetic shot is fired.
I MIG draws personnel from a wide range of specialties — intelligence analysts, signals intelligence operators, cyber warfare specialists, electronic warfare officers, communication Marines, civil affairs teams, and psychological operations personnel — all unified under a single command structure.
