Official VMM-362 Ugly Yacht Club Shoulder Patch — Semper Malus, Always Ugly
The Ugly Angels didn't get prettier — they just got faster.
VMM-362 "Ugly Angels" is a Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron flying the MV-22B Osprey out of MCAS Miramar, California under MAG-16 and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. Originally established in 1952 as HMR-362, the squadron earned its legendary "Ugly Angels" nickname in Vietnam — flying "ugly" UH-34D helicopters to rescue downed pilots, making them "angels" in the eyes of every Marine on the ground. The Ugly Angels became the first Marine aircraft squadron to deploy to South Vietnam in April 1962, and their combat legacy spans Desert Storm, Haiti, Iraq, and Afghanistan. After deactivation in 2012, the squadron was reactivated on August 17, 2018, as an MV-22B Osprey unit and achieved full operational capability in February 2020. This "Ugly Yacht Club" morale patch is pure VMM-362 swagger — a nod to the squadron's irreverent humor and the Osprey community's love of self-deprecating nicknames.
Perfect For: VMM-362 Ugly Angels Marines past and present, MV-22 Osprey crews and maintainers, MCAS Miramar squadrons, MAG-16 and 3rd MAW personnel, and anyone who knows that "ugly" is a badge of honor.
