From the Lexington class to the Forrestal class, the name Saratoga meant carrier power for six decades.
This patch honors both USS Saratoga (CV-3), the Lexington-class fleet carrier that fought through World War II, and USS Saratoga (CV-60), the Forrestal-class supercarrier that served from 1956 to 1994. CV-3 survived Pearl Harbor and fought in the brutal Pacific campaigns, while CV-60 carried the Cold War flag through Vietnam, the 1983 Beirut deployment, and Operation Desert Storm. Together, the two Saratogas provided unbroken carrier capability from the 1920s through the 1990s — a continuous legacy of naval aviation excellence that few ship names can claim.
