Official Southern University NROTC Redstick Battalion Patch — Southern University Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Embroidered Patch
Redstick Battalion — forging Navy and Marine Corps officers at Southern University.
The Southern University NROTC Redstick Battalion patch represents the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps unit at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The "Redstick" name honors Baton Rouge itself — "Baton Rouge" translates from French to "Red Stick," referring to the red cypress poles that marked territorial boundaries between Native American nations in the area. The Redstick Battalion produces commissioned Navy and Marine Corps officers from one of America's historically Black colleges and universities.
Southern University's NROTC program provides midshipmen with the academic education, physical training, and leadership development needed to earn a commission as a Navy or Marine Corps officer. Midshipmen in the Redstick Battalion balance a full college course load with military science classes, physical fitness requirements, drill, and summer training cruises that expose them to fleet operations aboard Navy ships and at Marine Corps bases. Upon graduation, these young officers join the fleet as surface warfare officers, aviators, submariners, Marines, and other warfare specialties. The Redstick Battalion has a proud tradition of producing outstanding officers who serve with distinction across the naval services.
This patch represents the future leaders of the Navy and Marine Corps.
Perfect For: Southern University NROTC alumni, Redstick Battalion midshipmen, NROTC program supporters, and military commissioning program collectors.
