Naval Air Station Whiting Field, located in Milton, Florida, is one of the busiest military airfields in the world and serves as the primary training base for Navy and Marine Corps helicopter and fixed-wing student pilots. The Functional Check Flight (FCF) program at Whiting Field is a critical quality assurance operation — FCF pilots conduct test flights on aircraft following major maintenance, inspections, or component replacements to verify the aircraft is safe for return to the training fleet. These experienced aviators fly aircraft through a rigorous series of maneuvers and systems checks, catching problems before they reach the student pipeline. The "We Can Fix Stupid" motto reflects the irreverent, no-nonsense attitude of the maintenance and test flight community — a reminder that their job is to catch every error, no matter how small.
