MALS-39 provides intermediate-level maintenance, supply, and logistics support to MAG-39's squadrons, ensuring that the aircraft group's helicopters and tiltrotor aircraft are maintained, armed, and ready for combat operations.
MAG-39 is part of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and includes light attack helicopter, tiltrotor, and heavy-lift helicopter squadrons operating the AH-1Z Viper, UH-1Y Venom, MV-22B Osprey, and CH-53E Super Stallion. MALS-39's Hellhounds maintain the critical supply chain, intermediate maintenance shops, and ordnance capabilities that keep these diverse aircraft types flying. The "Hellhounds" name captures the tenacity and relentless work ethic of the squadron's Marines — they hunt down maintenance problems and supply shortfalls with the same intensity that a hellhound pursues its quarry.
