Marine Wing Support Squadron 371 (MWSS-371), the Sandsharks, operate out of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms, California, with this patch specifically representing the Support Platoon — the Alley Cats. MWSS-371 provides all the essential services that an expeditionary airfield requires: runway construction and repair, fuel storage and distribution, crash fire rescue, base defense, and field utilities. The Support Platoon handles the logistics and services that keep the entire squadron functioning. Without MWSS units, Marine aviation cannot operate from forward locations — they literally build the bases that combat aircraft fly from.
