Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One was commissioned on June 1, 1978, at MCAS Yuma, Arizona, born from the success of consolidated Weapons and Tactics Instructor courses that proved the need for a permanent graduate-level aviation training command. MAWTS-1 hosts the renowned WTI Course — recognized as the most comprehensive graduate-level aviation course of instruction in the world — producing over 300 WTI graduates each year who return to their squadrons as subject matter experts in weapons employment and tactical planning. The ordnance community within this elite program ensures that Marine aviation's killing power remains unmatched, from the 20mm rotary cannon on the Cobra to precision strikes delivered by Hornets and Harriers.
