Patrol Squadron 40 (VP-40) "Fighting Marlins" is a United States Navy maritime patrol squadron operating the P-8A Poseidon from NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. The Fighting Marlins carry one of the most spirited identities in the maritime patrol community, with their motto "Laging Handa" (Filipino for "Always Ready") reflecting the squadron's constant state of operational readiness.

VP-40 operates the P-8A Poseidon, the Navy's newest maritime patrol aircraft that replaced the venerable P-3 Orion. The P-8A is a military derivative of the Boeing 737-800ERX, modified with an advanced mission suite including multi-mode radar, acoustic sensors, and the ability to launch sonobuoys and torpedoes for anti-submarine warfare. VP-40's Fighting Marlins deploy worldwide, conducting anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence collection, and maritime domain awareness missions that keep the Navy informed about submarine and surface vessel activity across the globe.
