Officially Licensed US Navy VF-43 Challengers Squadron Sticker — Fighter Squadron 43 Adversary Vinyl Sticker
The enemy you train against today saves your life tomorrow.
Fighter Squadron 43 (VF-43) "Challengers" was a United States Navy adversary squadron based at Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Challengers served as the Atlantic Fleet's dedicated adversary squadron, providing realistic dissimilar air combat training (DACT) to fleet fighter and strike fighter squadrons preparing for deployment. VF-43 played the role of enemy fighters, simulating Soviet and other threat aircraft tactics to sharpen the combat skills of Navy aircrews.
VF-43 operated an impressive variety of aircraft throughout its history, including the F-5E Tiger II, F-16N Viper, F-21 Kfir, and other platforms chosen specifically because their performance characteristics mimicked those of potential adversary aircraft. The Challengers' pilots were hand-picked experienced aviators who mastered enemy tactics, doctrines, and aircraft capabilities to provide the most realistic possible threat presentations during training engagements. Their mission was simple but vital: be the best "bad guys" in the sky so that fleet aviators would be ready for the real thing. VF-43 was disestablished in 1993, but its legacy lives on through the Navy's continued commitment to adversary training.
The Challengers' contribution to fleet readiness during the Cold War era was immeasurable — every dogfight they simulated made the fleet more lethal.
Perfect For: VF-43 Challengers veterans, adversary squadron enthusiasts, F-5 Tiger II and F-16N fans, DACT training collectors, and NAS Oceana alumni.
Challenge accepted — VF-43.
