Officially Licensed US Navy VF-126 Fighting Seahawks Squadron Patch — The Original Bandits
Before Top Gun was a movie, VF-126 was the opposition.
VF-126 "Fighting Seahawks" — later renamed the "Bandits" — was the Pacific Fleet's premier adversary squadron based at NAS Miramar, California, the legendary home of Top Gun. Originally established as VA-126 on April 6, 1956, the squadron was redesignated VF-126 in 1965 and shifted to its adversary role in the 1960s. Flying the A-4 Skyhawk — chosen for its MiG-like maneuverability and smokeless trail — VF-126 provided realistic air-to-air combat training to Pacific Fleet fighter and attack crews. The squadron later operated the F-5E Tiger II and F-16N Falcon, simulating the tactics and performance characteristics of Soviet fighters from the MiG-17 to the MiG-23. VF-126 even flew the Navy's Official Bicentennial Jet in 1976. After 38 years of service and thousands of simulated dogfights, the Bandits were disestablished on April 1, 1994. This Fighting Seahawks patch represents the squadron's earlier era — pure Cold War adversary swagger.
Perfect For: VF-126 Fighting Seahawks and Bandits veterans, NAS Miramar alumni, adversary pilot community, Top Gun enthusiasts, A-4 Skyhawk and F-5 Tiger lovers, and anyone who played the bad guy so the good guys could win.
VF-126 — the bandits who made fighter pilots better.
