Officially Licensed USMC VMFA-312 Checkerboards Tan F/A-18 Shoulder Patch — Embroidered Patch
Checkerboard Legacy in Desert Tan
The Checkerboards in subdued desert tan — a patch designed for the deployed environment where visibility is the enemy and heritage is everything. VMFA-312's shoulder patch in this tactical colorway represents one of the Marine Corps' most storied fighter squadrons, ready for operations in austere, sand-colored theaters where the mission demands a low profile.
VMFA-312 was commissioned on June 1, 1943, at Page Field, Parris Island, and has built an extraordinary combat record spanning every major conflict since World War II. The Checkerboards saw their first action over Okinawa flying F4U Corsairs, then deployed to Korea where they supported the 1st Marine Division during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir and made history when Captain Jesse Folmar became the first pilot in a piston-engine aircraft to shoot down a MiG-15 jet. The squadron transitioned through Panthers, Furies, Crusaders, and Phantoms before adopting the F/A-18 Hornet. Based at MCAS Beaufort under MAG-31 and 2nd MAW, the Checkerboards have deployed extensively with Navy carrier air wings, participating in operations over Yugoslavia, Iraq, and the Persian Gulf.
Perfect For:
VMFA-312 veterans and active duty, MAG-31 personnel, F/A-18 Hornet community members, MCAS Beaufort Marines, carrier air wing veterans, and Checkerboard alumni
From Okinawa to the Persian Gulf — the Checkerboards never stop fighting.
