Marine Aircraft Group 39 (MAG-39), the "War Eagles," is a United States Marine Corps aviation group based at Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton, California, under the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. MAG-39 commands and directs the operations, training, and combat readiness of multiple helicopter and tiltrotor squadrons that provide assault support, attack helicopter firepower, and utility aviation to the I Marine Expeditionary Force. The group's squadrons operate the AH-1Z Viper, UH-1Y Venom, MV-22B Osprey, and CH-53E Super Stallion — the rotary-wing and tiltrotor backbone of Marine expeditionary operations. MAG-39's squadrons have deployed to combat zones from Desert Storm through Afghanistan and Iraq, and maintain continuous forward presence through the Unit Deployment Program in the Western Pacific.
