USMC 1st Battalion 7th Marine Regiment First Team Patch — Embroidered Patch
The First Team — Where Legends Served
No battalion in the Marine Corps can claim a roster of legends quite like 1st Battalion, 7th Marines. From Chesty Puller to Manila John Basilone to James Mattis, the "First Team" has produced more Marine Corps icons than any other single battalion — and its combat record explains why.
The history of 1/7 began on April 1, 1921, in San Diego. At Guadalcanal, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Lewis "Chesty" Puller, the battalion held its positions against a full regiment of Japanese attackers, while Sergeant John Basilone earned the Medal of Honor defending his machine gun position single-handedly against waves of enemy troops. In Korea, 1/7 made the amphibious landing at Inchon and fought to and from the Chosin Reservoir, where Lieutenant Colonel Raymond Davis earned the Medal of Honor. The First Team was the first Marine unit to man defensive positions in Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield and spearheaded Task Force Ripper into Kuwait. In Iraq, 1/7 crossed the border and fought its way to Baghdad. Based at Twentynine Palms, the battalion continues to produce warriors worthy of its extraordinary legacy.
Perfect For:
1/7 Marines past and present, Twentynine Palms Marines, Guadalcanal and Chosin veterans, admirers of Chesty Puller, Basilone, and Mattis, 1st MARDIV personnel, and anyone who knows that the First Team is where legends begin.
Puller. Basilone. Davis. Mattis. The First Team — where legends serve.
