VUQ-11, the "Manta Wraiths," is the U.S. Navy's planned second Unmanned Carrier-Launched Multi-Role Squadron — the follow-on to VUQ-10 "Pathfinders" and the next operational MQ-25 Stingray squadron in the Navy's stand-up of carrier-based unmanned aviation. The Manta Wraiths' name draws from the manta ray and the Pacific "mana" tradition — fitting for an unmanned squadron whose Stingrays will fly long hours over the Pacific extending the strike range of Pacific Fleet carrier air wings. The MQ-25 Stingray's primary mission is mission tanking — passing fuel to F/A-18E/F Super Hornets, F-35Cs, and E-2Ds in flight to give the carrier air wing strike profiles that simply weren't possible with the Super Hornet tanker — with secondary roles in recovery tanking and ISR for the Carrier Strike Group. VUQ-10 was established October 1, 2022 at NAS Patuxent River as the Fleet Replacement Squadron writing the operational and maintenance procedures alongside VX-23, UX-24, and VX-1, and VUQ-11 and VUQ-12 follow as the operational fleet squadrons that carry the Stingray to the boat.
