Officially Licensed US Navy VT-19 Attack Frogs Training Squadron Patch — Training Squadron 19 NAS Meridian T-2C Buckeye Heritage Embroidered Patch
Pond hoppers and student naval aviators — VT-19 Attack Frogs, NAS Meridian, T-2C Buckeyes, 1971–1998.
Training Squadron 19 (VT-19), the "Attack Frogs," was a US Navy intermediate jet training squadron based at Naval Air Station Meridian, Mississippi. The squadron was commissioned on August 2, 1971 at NAS Meridian when VT-9 "Tigers" branched off to form a sister squadron, after which both VT-9 and VT-19 split the intermediate jet training role at Meridian. VT-19's mission was to instruct future naval aviators in the foundational skills required of every strike-pipeline jet pilot — basic jet familiarization, radio instruments, precision aerobatics, formation flying, night flying, air-to-air gunnery, and ultimately carrier qualification — built around the McDonnell T-2 Buckeye trainer. VT-19 was originally assigned 57 aircraft including T-2As and T-2Bs (phased out by 1973), and eventually grew to 82 T-2C Buckeyes assigned to Training Air Wing ONE. In July 1987 the squadron consolidated with VT-9 "Tigers," and on October 1, 1998 VT-19 was redesignated as VT-9 — reactivating the Tigers callsign and effectively retiring the Attack Frogs name from active fleet service. VT-9 / former VT-19 completed the last student naval aviator training flight in the T-2C Buckeye in June 2004 before transitioning to the T-45C Goshawk that VT-9 Tigers fly today. This Attack Frogs patch carries the heritage of the squadron and its instructor pilots, students, and T-2C Buckeyes.
Perfect For: VT-19 Attack Frogs and VT-9 Tigers veteran instructor pilots and student naval aviators, NAS Meridian Mississippi naval aviation alumni, Training Air Wing ONE personnel, T-2C Buckeye pilots and maintainers, McDonnell T-2 heritage enthusiasts, CNATRA staff, and naval aviation strike pipeline graduates from the T-2 era.
