This VA-126 "Skyhawks" embroidered patch represents one of the Navy's notable attack and adversary training squadrons, named after the iconic A-4 Skyhawk aircraft that became synonymous with the unit's identity.
VA-126 served multiple roles during its operational history, including as a Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) training new pilots on the A-4 Skyhawk and later as an adversary squadron providing realistic air combat training for fleet aviators. The squadron operated the nimble A-4 Skyhawk — a small, fast, and maneuverable attack aircraft that proved surprisingly effective as an aggressor platform simulating enemy fighters. VA-126 later operated the F-16N Viper in the adversary role, providing fleet squadrons with realistic dissimilar air combat training that improved their combat readiness. The Skyhawks' dual legacy as both an attack squadron and an adversary training unit made them unique in naval aviation, contributing to both the offensive strike mission and the tactical training that prepared fleet aviators for air-to-air combat.
