Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 41 (HSM-41), the "Seahawks," is the U.S. Navy's West Coast Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) for the MH-60R Sea Hawk — the world's most advanced rotary-wing maritime strike platform. Based at Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, California, HSM-41 trains every Naval Aviator and Naval Aircrewman headed to a West Coast HSM operational squadron in classroom, simulator, and flight training across anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, vertical replenishment, search and rescue, medical evacuation, and naval gunfire support. The squadron was originally commissioned on January 21, 1983 as Helicopter Anti-Submarine Light 41 (HSL-41), the Navy's first Light Airborne Multi-Purpose System (LAMPS) MK III squadron flying the SH-60B Seahawk; it was redesignated as Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 41 (HSM-41) on December 8, 2006 in the transition to the MH-60R. Across its 37+ years HSM-41 has accumulated over 230,000 Class A Mishap-free flight hours and trained more than 4,000 Fleet Replacement Pilots and Aircrew, with Meritorious Unit Commendations in 1985, 1988, 1991, and 2002, the CDR Ellyson Aviator Production Excellence Award in 2011, 2013, and 2014, and the 2014 CNO Aviation Safety Award.
