Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 35 (HSM-35) "Magicians" is a pioneering Navy helicopter squadron based at NAS North Island, Coronado, California, that made history as the first composite expeditionary helicopter squadron to integrate both manned MH-60R Seahawk helicopters and MQ-8B Fire Scout unmanned aerial vehicles into a single operational unit. Re-established in 2013, HSM-35 inherited the legacy of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light 35 (HSL-35), which served the fleet from 1973 to 1992. The Magicians provide maritime strike, anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, and ISR capabilities from the decks of littoral combat ships and surface combatants — extending the ship's eyes and weapons far beyond the horizon. This officially licensed patch features the classic Magicians insignia and represents a squadron that is quite literally writing the playbook for the future of manned-unmanned teaming in naval aviation.
