Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369 (HMLA-369) "Gunfighters" is one of the Marine Corps' premier light attack helicopter squadrons, and this 1972 throwback patch celebrates the squadron's original heritage from the year of its establishment. HMLA-369 has been putting ordnance on target and supporting Marines on the ground since the early 1970s, and this vintage design captures the spirit of those founding Gunfighters.
HMLA-369 was established during the Vietnam War era, when Marine helicopter attack squadrons were rapidly expanding to meet the demands of combat operations in Southeast Asia. The 1972 throwback design evokes the aesthetic of that period — a time when Marine helicopter warfare was being defined by the men who flew Cobras and Hueys into hostile landing zones, gun runs, and medevac missions under fire. The Gunfighters carried that Vietnam-era combat ethos forward through decades of service, deploying to operations in Grenada, Lebanon, the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan. This heritage patch connects today's AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom crews to the original Gunfighters who established the squadron's reputation.
