Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5) holds the distinction of being the only permanently forward-deployed carrier air wing in the United States Navy. Historically based at NAF Atsugi, Japan, and now operating from MCAS Iwakuni, CVW-5 has been the cornerstone of American airpower projection in the Indo-Pacific region for decades. This throwback patch collection celebrates the rich heritage of the air wing and its legendary component squadrons.

CVW-5's current composition includes some of the Navy's most storied squadrons: VFA-27 Royal Maces, VFA-102 Diamondbacks, VFA-195 Dambusters, VFA-147 Argonauts, VAQ-141 Shadowhawks, VAW-125 Tigertails, HSC-12 Golden Falcons, HSM-77 Saberhawks, and VRM-30 Providers. Embarked aboard USS George Washington (CVN-73), these squadrons maintain a constant state of readiness to respond to any contingency in the Pacific theater.
