The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU) is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU in the Marine Corps, operating from Okinawa, Japan, under III Marine Expeditionary Force and 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. The 31st MEU maintains a constant state of readiness to respond to crises, humanitarian disasters, and contingencies throughout the Indo-Pacific region. As a Marine Air-Ground Task Force, the 31st MEU combines ground, aviation, and logistics combat elements into a single deployable force capable of conducting amphibious operations, embassy reinforcement, noncombatant evacuation, and direct action missions on short notice.
