VT-27 Boomers T-6B Texan II Demo Team Patch
Training Squadron 27 (VT-27) — "Boomers" — T-6B Texan II Demonstration Team
The Boomers of Training Squadron 27 were initially established on 11 July 1951 as Advanced Training Unit-B at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas. The command moved to NAS Kingsville in 1952 and then to NAS New Iberia, Louisiana in 1960, where it was redesignated VT-27 and began operating the Grumman S2F-1T Tracker as a multi-engine trainer. In July 1964, the Boomers returned to NAS Corpus Christi, where they have remained as an integral part of the Texas Coastal Bend community for over six decades.
In 1973, VT-27 transitioned from advanced to primary training with the arrival of the T-28B Trojan, and in August 1983, the squadron took delivery of the first T-34C Turbo Mentor — which became the mainstay of Navy and Marine Corps primary flight training for nearly three decades. In June 2013, VT-27 transitioned to the T-6B Texan II, a state-of-the-art turboprop trainer that provides student naval aviators with their first taste of military aviation. As one of just five Navy primary training squadrons, the Boomers average well over 11,000 training missions per year and more than 70 sorties per training day, producing Navy and Marine Corps pilots of the highest quality. Under recent command, VT-27 flew more than 22,100 flight hours, executed 12,985 sorties, and graduated more than 297 Student Naval Aviators. The squadron's safety record consistently sets the standard for excellence across the Chief of Naval Air Training command.
Perfect For: VT-27 Boomers alumni and current instructors, student naval aviators who earned their wings at Corpus Christi, T-6B Texan II pilots, Training Air Wing Four personnel, NAS Corpus Christi community members, and naval aviation training enthusiasts.
This demo team patch celebrates the Boomers — the squadron where legends begin and every naval aviator takes their first steps toward wings of gold.
