Training Squadron Two (VT-2) "Doerbirds" is a United States Navy primary flight training squadron based at Naval Air Station Whiting Field, Milton, Florida. This Christmas patch celebrates the holiday season Doerbird style, bringing festive cheer to one of the Navy's busiest training squadrons. The "Durty Burd" identity adds a touch of irreverent humor that perfectly captures the personality of a primary flight training squadron.
VT-2 operates the T-6B Texan II primary trainer as part of Training Air Wing Five (TW-5), providing the first phase of flight training for student naval aviators, student naval flight officers, and student Coast Guard aviators. Primary flight training is where the dream of military aviation becomes reality — students take their first flights, learn basic airwork, experience the thrill of solo flight, and begin the journey toward Wings of Gold. The Doerbirds' instructors are the first military flight instructors most students will ever fly with, making VT-2's role foundational to the entire naval aviation enterprise.
