VP-40, the Fighting Marlins, is a Patrol Squadron flying the P-8A Poseidon out of NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. Known by their motto "Laging Handa" (Always Ready), VP-40 has deployed to every corner of the globe, from the frozen waters around Iceland conducting Cold War-era submarine patrols to the scorching deserts of the Middle East supporting overland ISR missions. This shoulder patch commemorates the squadron's versatility — equally at home tracking Russian submarines under the North Atlantic as they are providing maritime domain awareness in the Arabian Gulf. It's a patch that says "we've been cold, we've been hot, and we've been effective in both."
