**Official VMU-3 Phantoms Box Goblin Drone Operator Shoulder Patch — Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron Embroidered Patch**
The Phantoms of VMU-3 — you can't see them, but they see everything. This Box Goblin drone operator patch represents the Marines who put eyes in the sky over the battlefield.
VMU-3, the "Phantoms," is a Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron based at MCB Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay, under MAG-24 and 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. Commissioned on September 12, 2008, at Twentynine Palms, California, VMU-3 quickly proved its worth in combat, deploying to both Iraq and Afghanistan in 2010 where the squadron supported the seizure of Marjah with RQ-7 Shadow and ScanEagle UAVs. Over multiple Afghanistan deployments, VMU-3 flew over 2,300 sorties encompassing 21,000+ flight hours, including operating the unmanned K-MAX cargo resupply helicopter. The squadron earned the 2011 Commandant's Aviation Trophy and now flies the MQ-9A Reaper, providing ISR and strike capabilities for III MEF.
